Why do we learn Sociology?
Sociology helps students understand how societies are organised and how social structures, institutions, and cultures influence people’s behaviour. It examines patterns in education, family life, and crime and belief, encouraging students to think carefully about how and why societies change over time. By studying Sociology, students gain a deeper understanding of the ideas and evidence that shape the study of social life.

Our approach
Students study the organisation and purpose of education, exploring how it relates to wider social and economic structures. They then examine key topics in sociology such as families and beliefs and culture, developing an understanding of how these interact to shape society. Finally, they analyse crime and deviance, considering different explanations for social order, control and conflict.
Teaching focuses on clear explanation of sociological theories, close study of research and evidence, and regular writing practice. Students learn to apply key ideas to real examples and to evaluate different perspectives with precision.
