What is SPA?
Ark Soane Academy Parents’ Association (SPA) is run by the school's parents/carers. Our mission is to support the school through fundraising, holding events, and bringing our academy community together. As a parent of a child at Ark Soane, you are automatically a member of the SPA, and we look forward to getting to know you over the coming months. The year 2022-2023 will be the founding year of the SPA.
What does SPA ‘do’?
Ark Soane is a new, highly academic, non-selective, non-denominational secondary school which opened in Acton in September 2021. The school is committed to giving our children the kind of education, rich in music, arts, sports and external visits, which a state budget does not always allow for. SPA will work towards helping the school by raising additional funds throughout the year that will allow our children to have experiences they would not otherwise have.
We aspire to hold several events each year, big and small, for the children and for our parents/carers. One of our first projects will be to aim to enrich and stock the school’s library, including organising a book drop. Not only do we aim to raise much-needed funds for our school, to enrich our children’s education further, but also to foster community. To that end, some events are simply social, intended wholly for parents, governors and staff to mingle in an informal setting
What is the SPA committee?
The SPA committee is made up of parents’ volunteers who are keen to get more involved and to give something extra back to the school community. The committee is made up of 2 Chairs, 2 Secretaries, 2 Treasurers and one member responsible for Communications.
Committee Members 2022-2023
- Chairs: Hodan Haili & Georgina Thompson
- Treasurers: Josie Gayton & Peter Minah
- Secretaries: Farah Alfarhan & Evlampia Chelmi
- Communications: Mojca Sanjenbam
What does the SPA committee ‘do’?
The committee which has representatives from each school year, are here to oversee the organising of fundraising and social events, encourage greater communication between parents and carers and the school, support other parents by sharing helpful information about school life, or passing on experiences. As a new parent, the experience can be quite daunting, and it can be helpful to have someone ‘on the ground’ to talk to.
We also share relevant information between parents and facilitate communication amongst parents in each year group by maintaining a WhatsApp year group that all parents are invited to join. If you wish to be added to one of the WhatspApp year groups, please email soanepta@gmail.com making us aware of the group you wish to join, and we will send you the relevant link. 2 We have open committee meetings throughout the year, and our Annual General Meeting (AGM) is held once a year, usually towards the end of September.
How can you get involved?
There are lots of ways to be involved with SPA, small or large! From simply attending the social and community events, to baking a cake for our bake sales, organising an event, fundraising, or becoming a member of our SPA committee. Hopefully you’ll want to be an active part of our community!

Library Book Donations
Thank you for all your book donations so far. We also raised £360 with which we bought approximately 80 books, a mixture of school request and our own initiative.
Library is looking much fuller already. Still lots of empty shelves though so please keep on dropping suitable books to the school reception.
