Why do we learn Government and Politics?
Government and Politics helps students understand how political power works and how decisions are made within and between nations. The subject develops knowledge of the key institutions, ideas and traditions that shape political life in the United Kingdom and elsewhere. By studying Politics, students gain a clear understanding of the principles that underpin systems of government and the ways in which power is organised and exercised.

Our approach
Students study how the UK is governed, including the roles of Parliament, the executive, the judiciary, and the constitution. They also explore major political ideas such as conservatism, liberalism, and socialism, and how these have influenced political decisions. In comparative politics, students examine how other countries are governed, drawing out similarities and differences with the British system.
Teaching focuses on clear explanation of key concepts, close study of current examples, and regular practice in essay writing. Students learn to apply precise knowledge to complex questions and to develop reasoned, well-supported arguments.
