Dear Parents and Carers
Astonishingly we are already at the end of September. The pupils have done us proud by stepping up a year and working that bit harder and demonstrating greater maturity. Thank you, as ever, for your support.
Please be aware that there are an ever-increasing number of incidents involving young people in Acton Town Centre at the end of the school day. It is not safe for children to be hanging around there unsupervised and pupils will be sanctioned if loitering after dismissal time without parental supervision. This keeps both pupils and the community safe and we are grateful for your support.
Medical appointments: We ask that you do not book medical appointments during the school day unless entirely unavoidable. This is to avoid your child having gaps in their understanding which can have a significant impact on their progress and achievement. If unavoidable, your child must come to school until they need to leave for the appointment and must return to school afterwards so they can be marked present for both morning and afternoon sessions, ensuring they maintain a good attendance record.
I wish you a great week ahead.
Please see notices below.

Year 10 – Triple Science Applications
Triple Science will be available as an additional GCSE for students who have demonstrated an outstanding performance in Science in their summer exams, strong average quiz scores throughout Year 9, high effort across Science lessons and homework. This is an exciting opportunity for pupils to deepen their understanding of Biology, Chemistry, and Physics and achieve an additional GCSE. Note that triple science is not required for pupils to progress to science A-levels.
In the Triple Science program, pupils will study the same content covered in the Combined Science GCSE, along with additional topics that will enrich their learning experience. Here are just a few examples of what you can expect:
Biology |
Chemistry |
Physics |
Culturing microorganisms Monoclonal antibodies DNA structure and cloning The brain and the eye Plant hormones
|
Further organic chemistry Advanced quantitative methods, including titrations Corrosion and alloys The Haber process |
Static electricity Space exploration Nuclear fission and fusion The generator effect and transformers |
Pupils will attend their normal Science lessons daily as well as an additional weekly session with a member of the Science team. The triple Science sessions will take place every Monday from 3:30pm to 4:45pm and be supported with additional homework each week.
To apply for this opportunity, pupils should write a two-sided A4 letter addressed to Miss Taylor. In their letter, they should include the following:
- Why you would like to do Triple Science.
- What you love about Science the most.
- How you have demonstrated the values of commitment, hard work and going above and beyond in your Science studies so far.
The deadline for applications is: Friday 3rd October at 3.30pm. Letters should be handed to Ms Taylor or pupil's Science teacher.
Year 10 Home Language GCSEs
We will soon be assessing prospective Home Language GCSE students' writing skills to check that they will be successful if entered into an additional language GCSE. We will send out further information to those who we believe are suitable for entry over the next few weeks. Second Hand Uniform Sale
Last week the Soane Parents Association ran a successful second hand uniform sale. The Association raised £325 which will be used by the school to support school enrichment activities and help provide additional equipment for learning.
We would like to say a huge thank you to the parents and year 10 students who helped with the sale.
We plan to run another sale later in the year.
