Dear Parents and Carers
Dear parents and carers,
I hope you have had a great weekend despite the heat. I couldn't have been prouder of our pupils last week as the younger years worked so hard to impress through their end of year exams and our founding Y10s used every available minute to revise for their first full set of mock GCSEs. We wish them luck as they complete their mocks this week.
I was really delighted to host a visit from Oasis Academy Southbank last week. They fed back “it was truly inspiring what you are achieving. It really was magical. We all left with lots of fire in our bellies and full of inspiration.” They then went on to win the TES Secondary School of the Year Award - so high praise indeed for all that your children are achieving at Soane.
As we head in to July there are lots of events to look forward to: our fete, our concert, our end of-term trips and our sports day. Please keep a close eye out for details in this and next week's bulletins.
Travelling to and from school: Hot weather and long evenings can lead to pupils engaging in high-risk behaviour at the end of the school day. Please support us by ensuring that your child returns straight home and changes out of their school uniform if meeting with friends or participating in an activity outside of school. This is to keep them safe, avoid them getting into trouble in the local community, and to maintain the positive reputation of the school. We count on your support with this. Staff from the school will also continue to patrol the local area.
Attendance to end of term: While we sympathise that the cost of travel during school holidays is often higher please remember that it is parents' legal obligation to ensure their children attend school on every school day including at the end of term. Please do not book any travel before 24th July and please ensure that pupils are back in the UK ready to start on:
- 4th September (Y7)
- 8th September (Y11)
- 9th September (Y8-10)
Unauthorised absence may result in enforcement action including, but not limited to, fines being imposed by your Local Authority.
I wish you an enjoyable remainder of the weekend.
Kind regards,
Mr Neuberger
This Week's Highlights
It was an important week at Soane as key stage 3 completed their exams. The students worked extremely hard and had an incredible practice run for their GCSEs. Special revision shoutouts go to Bardia (10 Ramesses) and Harley (9 Cicero) for blowing their teachers away with their effort and hard work.

A special mention also has to be made to 8 Ramesses, who by the end of the week had decked their classroom ceiling to floor with revision. What a sight!

Summer Fete – Thursday 3rd July
On Thursday 3rd July, 2PM-4PM, we will be hosting our second Summer Fete. This will be a wonderful celebration for our community, with stalls, food, music, and activities. We will be fundraising for Ealing Foodbank at the event.
We have a small number of slots available for food stalls – if you would like to run a table, please let us know by completing this MS Form: https://forms.office.com/e/HwYAKe0Byj. Please be aware there will be no access to electricity at the stalls. We will be in touch if we are able to host your stall. Please note that we may not be able to take all offers to run a stall, for example if there are multiple offers for a similar stall. |
Summer Concert – Thursday 10th July
Our first Summer Concert will be on Thur 10th Jul, 5PM-6:30PM. Musicians have been working hard perfecting their pieces in anticipation for the event. We would love to welcome you there – please book a free ticket here: https://forms.office.com/e/xiHH6yAvpp.
Students may attend if in full uniform, with a ticket, and accompanied by a parent. Phones will be confiscated if seen on the night.
Performances will start promptly at 5:15PM; due to how the night is staged we are unable to admit latecomers, so please arrive at 5PM to avoid disappointment.
End of year trips – Friday 18th July & Monday 21st July
At the very end of each academic year, all Soane students go on two trips to celebrate the successes of the year, provide opportunities to build culture, and develop teamwork and perseverance. This is an important time of the year for our school community – your child must be in attendance on these days.
A reminder of our end of year trips is below:
- Year 7 – Go Ape Battersea and London City tour
- Year 8 – West Wittering Beach and Chiswick House & Dukes Meadow walk
- Year 9 – Thorpe Lakes Watersports and King’s College London
- Year 10 – Whitstable (students studying Geography)/Liberal Jewish Synagogue & Regent’s Park (students not studying Geography) and Gripped Hounslow (Tue 22nd Jul)
A letter has been emailed with further information for these trips. Payment is now due – if this is not received your child will regrettably need to remain onsite on these days. Go Ape, Thorpe Lakes, and Gripped require additional consent – please complete the Microsoft Form linked in these letters. Further details about timings for the school day for these trips will be shared in the parent bulletin closer to the time.
