Parent Bulletin 18th May

I was absolutely bowled over by the three productions of the Lion King which took place this week.  Thank you to all parents who supported their children's participation and to all of you who attended.  The pupils did us proud with their dedication to rehearsals leading to the most professional performance yet at Soane.  I am hugely grateful to all the staff who supported the production - their work on this was entirely above and beyond their day job and the hours of graft they put in is testament to their commitment to Ark Soane pupils.

Over one third of our Y10 cohort took on the North Downs in their practice Duke of Edinburgh expedition.  I couldn't have been prouder of their demonstration of their maturity, politeness and teamwork as they tackled a physical challenge that was far beyond their comfort zones.  Thank you to parents for your support and to the staff who accompanied the pupils.

Unbelievably we are already approaching the end of the Summer 1 half-term.  The half-term break runs from 26th to 30th May. We look forward to seeing all pupils return at the normal time on Monday 2nd June.

Once we come back at the start of June our exams will be just around the corner.  KS3 Exams will run from 16-19 June.  KS4 Exams will run from 20-27 June.  Timetables and content lists will be shared with pupils this week.  Please encourage them to start revising over the half-term break.  All material can be found in the student section of the website here https://arksoane.org/students.

Our Duke of Edinburgh Bronze students were out on their first expedition last Saturday, practicing their navigation, teamwork, and resilience on a gruelling 6 hour hike through Box Hill in Surrey. Students were a credit to the school throughout, and are now gearing up for their assessed expedition in July. A massive thank you to Mr Chippendale and the teachers who gave up their time on the weekend to support our students. 

It was also an incredibly important week for the drama department, who staged the school production of 'The Lion King' not once but three times. We promised it would be our best show yet, and the cast certainly delivered! A huge well done to the cast and crew of The Lion King, who brought Pride Rock to life for our annual school production. Students had been working exceptionally hard since October on bringing the Disney classic to life. 

Whilst we won't have another production until next academic year, make sure to pencil Friday 10th July into your calendar for our Summer Concert - more information to come!

What is HPV and how is it linked to cancer? 

HPV stands for Human Papilloma Virus.  Some strains significantly increase the risk of cancer. 

75% of teenagers are vaccinated. We strongly encourage everybody to take the vaccines offered to keep them safe now and later in life.

On Wednesday 28th May, the Year 10 Theatre Trip to see ‘An Inspector Calls’ will be going ahead. If your child has a spot on the trip, you will have received a letter via email. There are a few spare tickets remaining for this trip. If your child is in Year 10 and does not yet have a ticket but would like to attend, please contact Ms Rafalin via info@arksoane.org. The tickets will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. On the day of the trip, we will meet at school at 12.45pm and return around 5.30pm. The trip will cost £15, reduced to £7.50 for students in receipt of Pupil Premium.
