Laptop drop-in on Monday

We will be running a laptop drop-in clinic from 3:40-4:30 on Monday 3rd October to support any students who are having issues with their laptops. If there are any issues, your child should bring their laptop to GC02 at the end of the day so that our IT team can assist.

After School Clubs

We were delighted that after-school clubs were able to start this week. All of the students reported a really successful start to their extra-curricular activities. Our chess and Dungeons & Dragons players were particularly studious!

After school clubs continue this week. Any students who signed up late to clubs will be informed of their allocation tomorrow.

If you would still like to express interest in a club please do so here https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=dBTLADSljUaCn2NuzjLCTKv1J4FELylNoJAK88o9xMBUM05SWlYzRjEzRzBUSUZZRUdQREpPWDhQWS4u

Students should not bring food to school even if they have an after-school club – water and biscuits will be available to students if required.

Please note that students are required to make their own way from AA6 to Soane for after-school clubs as we are not able to provide the staff to support transition. This transition is not escorted and is done at the student’s own risk. If assistance is required to move between sites then please contact the office.

Attendance:

If your child is sick and unable to attend school please ensure that you telephone the school at the earliest possible opportunity and before 9am providing details of the illness. Where possible, please ensure that medical appointments are arranged outside school hours. Where this is not possible then please ensure that evidence of an appointment is shown and that your child only misses the minimum amount of school necessary for the appointment.

PE at Gunnersbury:

Please assist your child to arrive on time to PE at Gunnersbury. Students must arrive by 8.05 and need to ensure that they have their full school uniform (including their school shoes) with them so that they can change after PE.

Lost property:

Please ensure that all items of uniform and equipment are labelled in indelible ink or with nametags. Any items of lost property will be returned to the reception at Ark Soane where they can be collected by students at lunchtime.

Coats:

Please ensure that students always bring a navy/black raincoat or umbrella to school as we will always need to move between sites – rain or shine!

School office:

If you require assistance, in person, from a member of Soane staff please attend the office at Ark Soane between 9am and 5pm. Alternatively email us at info@arksoane.org

I hope you enjoy the remainder of the weekend.

Kind regards,

Mr Neuberger

Dear Parent,

Thank you for all your support and assistance over the start of this term.

Thank you to several families for their feedback on these bulletins – they are now available on the school website under the ‘school life’ tab.

Y7 Welcome Evening: We are delighted to invite all of our Year 7 families to an introductory evening at the Soane site on Thursday 13th October from 5pm-6pm. This will provide an opportunity to hear more about the students’ academic and pastoral life at Soane and give parents an opportunity to informally meet tutors and the leadership team. No registration is required but please bring your child. Students should attend in their school uniform.

Half-term dates: Next Thursday (20th October) is the last teaching day of the first half-term. School will be closed to students for staff training on both Friday 21st October and Monday 31st October. Students will return to school on Tuesday 1st November. I am awaiting a further progress update from the Department for Education on our school buildings and will provide further details on arrangements for next half-term before the October break.

Dear Parent,

As we come to the end of the first half-term of Ark Soane’s second year I wanted to take the opportunity to thank you for all the support you have given to [student name] and to the school since the start of September. While we were extremely disappointed not to be able to move into our new school buildings as planned we have had an incredibly successful start to the year for both Year 7 and Year 8 and this is testament to the hard work of all the students, your support and the tireless work of Soane staff to continue to provide the highest quality of education despite the issues we have had with accommodation.

Unfortunately the Department for Education has now informed us that the new classrooms, science labs and dining hall at Soane won’t be complete until the middle of November and so we are expecting to continue to operate out of AA6 for next half-term. As the days get darker and the weather gets worse we have decided to make some changes to our timetable to reduce the number of transitions between the two sites to:

  • On four days per week food will be brought to students in their classrooms at AA6 for tutor-based family dining. On one day per week they will continue to make the journey across to Soane for family dining with their year group followed by assembly.
  • We will give students a slightly shorter lunch break as they will not be moving between school sites. The school day will finish at 3.25 on Monday-Thursday and 2.25 on Friday.
  • Year 7 and 8 art will move across to AA6 as will Y7 music. Y8 music will be temporarily put on hold but will be replaced with additional after-school music clubs.

I know that news of a further delay will be disappointing to you but I am confident that we will continue to provide outstanding education for the students and do so in a more comfortable and sustainable way as we go into the winter months. I am very hopeful that we will be able to occupy the new building at the start of January (rather than trying to move in the middle of the half-term) – if we do then it is likely that school will be closed for additional INSET days to enable us to prepare the building for the students’ return. I will keep you updated with further news from the developer as we approach the handover date.

Exploration Day – 9th Nov: This year, our venues will be:

Year 7 – Museum of London, Science Museum, British Museum

Year 8 – Natural History Museum, Sir John Soane’s Museum, Tower of London

Please note that the Tower of London trip is a paid trip. The cost will be £4.10 and will be free for those in receipt of free school meals. The first form groups to be going on the Tower of London trip will be 8 Augustus and 8 Cicero. A charge will appear on your iPayImpact account for this trip, please can this be made no later than Tue 1st November.
We are once again on the look out for parent volunteers to support us in the successful running of these trips. We would require you from 9:00AM-3:00PM on the day. If you are free and able to help, please complete the Microsoft Form below:

This half-term’s art: Year 7s have been learning why we study art and creating posters to express their ideas. Year 8s have been learning to draw to scale and have been working on a project inspired by American artist Jim Dine. Please see examples of their work below alongside work completed in after-school Manga club.

Attendance:

If your child is sick and unable to attend school please ensure that you telephone the school at the earliest possible opportunity and before 9am providing details of the illness. Dear Parents,

I hope you have had a great half-term.  We are looking forward to welcoming [student name] back to school on Tuesday.

Soane Parents’ Association:  I am delighted that we will be launching a Parents’ Association at Soane this term.  Please see below a message to all parents from Josie and Mox:

Dear parents,

As you all know Ark Soane is a new school and one of the things that we don’t yet have is a Soane Parents’ Association.  Both Mox and I were involved in setting up the parents’ association at Ark Byron and have experience creating a parents’ association from scratch which we would like to share with the school community.

We are delighted to invite you all to a Soane Parents’ Association (SPA) Kick Off meeting on Thursday 1st December from 6pm – 7pm in the Ark Soane Hall.  The main aims of SPA will be to help build a strong parent community within the school, raise funds to help support the school with enrichment activities/ extra equipment and solidify the position of the school within our local community.

At the Kick Off meeting, we will be discussing what we would like the parents’ association to be, looking for volunteers who might want to get involved with the committee or take on specific committee roles (Chair/ Treasurer/ Secretary) and help organize events.  We also want to hear from you about any ideas you have, and the organization you would like to create.   As we are setting this up from scratch, we have a great opportunity to build something amazing that will help support the school, our children, and our broader community.

If you have any questions or would like to get involved but can’t come to the kick off meeting, please contact us at soanepta@gmail.com

We look forward to seeing many of you on the 23rd

Kind regards

Josie Gayton (mother of Mia, 7 Augustus, and Josh, 7 Ramesses)

Mox Sanjenbam (mother of Tian, 7 Augustus)

Timings of the day:  Students should be on-site by 8:05 each morning and will be dismissed at 3.25 from Monday to Thursday and 2.25 on Friday.  All students will be dismissed from AA6 unless they are attending an after-school club at Soane.

PE:  Please assist your child to arrive on time to PE at Gunnersbury.  Students must arrive by 8.05 and need to ensure that they have their full school uniform (including their school shoes) with them so that they can change after PE.  Students will be moving to a new rotation after half-term (please see below).  Please ensure that [student name] has appropriate clothing to keep warm during PE as we enter the colder months – they should have a navy track-suit for outdoor sports and a navy or black waterproof coat for the walk back to school.
